MARCH 28, 2010

The male osprey has remembered his favorite perch. It's 53 feet above the cove and offers a 360-degree view of water, land and sky. It's the top of our sailboat's mast. Captain Jack is not pleased. Last year, he had to contend with fishbones littering the cockpit and guano soiling the canvas. He tries last year's trick -- a windsock. So far so good. Ospreys, who will dive-bomb bald eagles who come too close to their nest, are frightened by fluttering cloth.
